HULL, MASS. (WHDH) - The community of Hull joined two soccer teams Monday evening to pay tribute to a soccer player who suddenly passed away last week.

The Hull High School Pirates played their rivals, the Cohasset High School Skippers,, in the first round of the girls soccer playoffs. The Pirates were coming off a rough week when their teammate Emma Ryan passed away. The 15-year-old sophomore died in her sleep of natural causes.

The entire Cohasset team paid respect to Ryan by attending her wake and funeral last week. Members of the New England Revolution also honored her on their Twitter. Monday’s game saw many people from Hull in the stands to cheer the Pirates on.

“Seeing the community come out today was unbelievable, it meant so much to all of us,” said Ryan’s teammate, Victoria Fuda.

Ryan’s sister, Caitlin, did not want to talk about her sister but commended her team for the great season they had.

“These girls showed what courage is all about,” said Hull Coach Stew Bell. He thanked the town for all their support and for coming to their game Monday.

Hull High has started a scholarship in Ryan’s memory.
