PRINCETON, MASS. (WHDH) - Police said they have received more than 500 tips so far about who may have killed a jogger in Princeton earlier this week.

Vanessa Marcotte, 27, was found dead hours after she left her mother’s home in Princeton to go jogging. Her body was found in a wooded area and sources told 7News her body had burn marks on the head, hands and feet.

Thursday, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early said he believes Marcotte tried to fight off her killer. Officials told people to be on the lookout for a man with bruises or scratches.

One tip that came in focused on a man at Wachusett Mountain with scrapes and cuts on his arm. Police said the man showed up on a motorcycle last Sunday afternoon with a woman and said he had just been in a motorcycle accident. Officials viewed surveillance camera footage and determined the man had no connection to Marcotte’s death.

The motorcyclist told 7News he was shocked to learn he was being investigated as part of a murder he knew nothing about.

Police said anyone who may have seen a car parked on the side of Brook Station Road between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday is urged to contact police. Anyone with information can call the anonymous tip line: 508-453-7589.
