CHATHAM, MASS. (WHDH) - Two people were rescued from a helicopter after it crashed in Chatham Friday afternoon.
Chatham Police were called to the shoreline at Crows Pond just before 1 p.m.
Crews found a 2002 Robinson Helicopter partially submerged with two people trapped inside.
The pilot, John Ryan, 48 of Scituate, and his passenger, Tyra Pacheco, 48 of Acushnet, were freed from the wreckage by emergency responders.
Ryan was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with serious injuries.
Pacheco was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital with critical injuries.
An eye witness said she saw the chopper hovering low, took a turn and came back even lower, eventually skidded across the water and landed at the edge of the pond.
Police said a preliminary investigation shows the helicopter was based out of Plymouth Airport and was hired for property aerial photography for a local real estate company.
Federal investigators will arrive at the scene on Saturday.
