BOSTON (AP) — A Massachusetts man has been found guilty of murder in the 2013 killing of his 88-year-old landlady.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury convicted 38-year-old Chelsea resident Felix Melendez on Tuesday of first-degree murder in the killing of Hilda Devincenzo.

Melendez was convicted of receiving stolen property last year after police found Devincenzo’s engagement ring in his apartment, but two previous juries failed to reach a verdict on the murder charge.

Prosecutors say Melendez had been doing electrical work for Devincenzo and complained to a neighbor about the repairs.

The landlady’s body was discovered days later on July 7, 2013, in her Chelsea apartment. Authorities initially thought she had succumbed to a heat wave, but an autopsy determined she had been beaten and strangled.

Melendez’s lawyer could not immediately be reached.
