WINDHAM, N.H. (WHDH) — For two weeks a landscaping crew has been working at a Windham, N.H. home. On Wednesday, they heard a splash in the pool next door and the sound of a screaming mother.
Matt Pulomena ran toward the neighbor’s house. A mother had jumped in the pool and pulled her 3-year-old son out. He said he could see the boy wasn’t breathing.
Pulomena, a landscaper who was trained to be a firefighter, jumped in to help.
“She started screaming, ‘Help, help, help, help’ so I just looked up and she had her son, Connor, over her should and I just took off and hopped the fence and then he was laid down on the ground, on their deck,” said Pulomena.
Without waiting for help, he just took over.
“I just flipped him over, checked for his circulation and if he was breathing and there was neither of the two so I just started compressions. It was probably the fifth or sixth round of compressions that he — water and stuff started coming up, out of his nose and his mouth and then it was probably one more round of CPR and he took that breath,” said Pulomena.
By the time the ambulance arrived the boy had started breathing.
“I hope he pulls out of this and that he gets to swim again. I’ll feel a lot better when I’m able to have a conversation with him and he’s telling me he’s alright,” said Pulomena.
Firefighters said the little boy was taken to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Elliot Hospital. There is no word on his condition.
