Botox has been a go-to treatment for many women who want to look younger.
But now it seems their husbands and boyfriends are following them to the doctor’s office in droves to get some “brotox” for themselves!
“It’s a procedure that is noninvasive it was easy and it really helped detour the aging process with very minimal side effects,” Kevin Spearman, a patient said.
Spearman is just one of hundreds of thousands of men seeking a fresher look through so-called “brotox.”
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons there has been a 310-percent increase in men getting Botox injections compared to a decade ago.
“Other people just tell me I look good for my age but they don’t specifically say anything about Botox,” Spearman said.
Dermatologists say while women tend to want to look younger men just want to look refreshed.
“Men tend to focus on one area so usually they’re looking at the glabella, where you’re getting that deep furrow because men are doing it because they’re wanting to look more relaxed when they’re going to job interviews. When they’re with their families they want to look more relaxed,” Dr. Sherry Ingraham said,
Botox treatments usually last about 3 to 4 months and there’s essentially no downtime.
But, there are some differences in where the injections are done in men as compared to women.
“In men you don’t want to arch that eyebrow as much men you want to have that nice strong eyebrow that you see on TV when you’re looking at Hollywood actors,” Ingraham said,
“Well I definitely think it’ becoming more widely acceptable. Of course there’s always going to be a stigma because it seems to be something that can be taken as vein or vanity but I look at it as more as we work out we stay healthy and this is just one thing that goes along with a healthy lifestyle and looking good,” Spearman said.
Doctors say Botox can be a kind of “gateway enhancement” for men. If they like the results, they may move on to fillers or other enhancement procedures.
