Three people on a boat were rescued from the Merrimack River in Newburyport Friday morning.

According to the Coast Guard, a call came in at 7:30 a.m. reporting a 32-foot pleasure boat with three people on board had run aground after hitting a sandbar.

The Coast Guard launched a rescue boat and towed the boat named “Warthog” back to shore. All three people suffered minor injuries and are expected to be OK. Warthog also sustained thosuands of dollars in damage.

Officials said the crash was not weather-related but there was a low tide when the vessel ran aground.
