CHARLEMONT, Mass. (AP) — Authorities say a Massachusetts man drowned while tubing with co-workers in the Deerfield River.

The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office says the body of 51-year-old Thomas Hereford of Adams was recovered Wednesday night in Charlemont.

Spokeswoman Mary Carey says Hereford’s tube had begun leaking air at some point during the trip. He then fell behind the rest of the group.

The group called authorities after several people searched for Hereford but were unable to locate him. Dive teams later recovered his body.

Carey has said state police are investigating the incident but don’t suspect foul play.
