LYNN, Mass. (AP) — The Essex district attorney has released the name of the man shot by Lynn police officers serving a search warrant at a city condominium complex.

Authorities on Tuesday identified the man shot Monday as 57-year-old Robert Dapkus.

Dapkus was a suspect in a Sept. 26 armed robbery at a restaurant.

Police say Dapkus told officers he wasn’t coming out after they knocked on the door of his fifth-floor unit. Police forced their way in and saw someone pointing a gun at the door. The officers retreated, but Dapkus followed them into the hallway still pointing the gun. Three officers opened fire. Their names have not been disclosed.

Lynn’s police chief says eight officers present during the shooting were placed on administrative leave for three days.

The district attorney is investigating.
