FITCHBURG, Mass. (AP) – A Massachusetts man has been ordered held on $2,500 bail after authorities say he crashed his car while drunk, killing his former high school football teammate.
Joseph Kapp, of Gardner, pleaded not guilty Monday to charges including vehicular homicide while under the influence of alcohol in connection with the crash at about 3:15 a.m. Saturday.
Authorities say the 19-year-old Kapp lost control of the vehicle he was driving in Lunenburg and struck several trees, killing 18-year-old Austin Robbins. Another passenger was injured.
Kapp and Robbins were former teammates at Lunenburg High School. Robbins graduated in June.
Prosecutors requested $10,000 bail. Kapp’s attorney sought $1,000 bail, saying his client doesn’t have a record and is not a flight risk.
About 200 people attended a vigil held for Robbins on Sunday.
