ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Hundreds of people are expected to run in remembrance of a journalist from New Hampshire who was executed in 2014 after being held hostage in Syria by the Islamic State.
It’s the second James Foley Freedom 5K. It’s being held in Rochester on Saturday.
Foley, of Rochester, was a freelance war correspondent in Syria before he was captured and held for nearly two years.
All money raised from the race will go to the James Foley Foundation to benefit American hostages held overseas, press freedom and safety of conflict journalists, and empowerment of disadvantaged youth through education.
Last year roughly 1,000 people participated.
