NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts jury has awarded $150,000 to the three adult children of a man whose funeral and burial was botched by a now-closed funeral home.

The Hampshire Superior Court ruled that each of Lincoln White Sr.’s children will get $50,000 after finding the Ryder Funeral Home in South Hadley and former owner William Ryder negligent.

White was a Korean War veteran who died in May 2014.

The children had requested that their father’s ashes be combined in an urn with their mother’s ashes. She died in 2011.

According to the lawsuit, a month after their father’s funeral, the family learned the ashes buried in the grave were not his. When the grave was opened without the family’s permission, the mother’s ashes were not there either.

Ryder faces several more lawsuits.
