BOSTON (WHDH) - Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is set to play his final regular season series at Fenway this weekend.

Lawmakers are hoping to pay tribute to Big Papi by renaming a Boston bridge in his honor.

A proposal is being drafted to change the name of the Brookline Avenue Bridge in his honor.

The proposal passed through the State House Thursday and will move on to the Senate.

A portrait of David Ortiz has also been cut into the outfield grass at Fenway Park.

It will remain there through at least Sunday for Ortiz’s final regular season game.

The Red Sox also put up a banner honoring Ortiz on Thursday.
