BOSTON (WHDH) - Transit Police have arrested a man wanted for escaping a pre-release program who was found smoking at an MBTA station.

According to police, on Sept. 19 around 4:30 p.m., officers were on patrol at the Mass Ave Station when they noticed a man smoking on the platform near “no smoking” signs.

The man was later identified as Randy Thomas, 36 of Quincy.

Officers learned Thomas had recently escaped from a pre-release program and had an active warrants out for escape from a penal institution.

He was arrested and was found to be in possession of a controlled narcotic for which he did not have a prescription.
