HYDE PARK, MA (WHDH) — Just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, officers responded to a radio call for a person with a knife making threats on Canterbury Street.

When officers arrived, they were unable to find the person, but received a description of the suspect.

A short time later, an officer working a detail at the Stop and Shop on American Legion Highway saw a person matching the description enter the store.

The officer saw a silver knife in the man’s hand and could see he appeared to be distraught.

The officer approached the man and began to speak with him.

According to police, the man repeatedly screamed “Just shoot me… go ahead, just shoot me…” The officer replied he was not going to shoot the man.

On several occasions, police said the man raised the knife to his neck and pointed directly into his stomach.

He finally dropped his weapon and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
