MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Two men from Massachusetts are OK after becoming stranded and then being rescued from the Cannon Cliffs in Franconia, New Hampshire.

Rock climbers 29-year-old William Sprecher, of Boston, and 23-year-old Michael Franklin, of Somerville, were climbing on the Moon Shadow Route on the Cannon Cliffs when they lost the route and could not go up or down.

New Hampshire Fish and Game officers got word of the situation about 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. Tram operators took members of the all-volunteer Mountain Rescue Service and a conservation officer to the summit of Cannon Mountain, and rescuers were able to descend to the stranded men.

The men secured and lifted to the top of the cliff and were able to hike out Sunday morning.
