PLYMOUTH, MASS. (WHDH) - Officials have recovered the body of a swimmer reported missing in Plymouth Wednesday.

Police say a 26-year-old did not resurface on Wednesday afternoon when he and two friends jumped out of an unanchored boat and into the water at Herring Pond.

The Plymouth Fire Department said the body of the man was recovered Thursday.

The woman and one of the men managed to get back in the boat but the other man slipped away and did not resurface.

The Coast Guard searched Wednesday afternoon and into the evening by helicopter and boat.

Dive teams were in the water for about two hours and the Coast Guard sent out a helicopter.

Crews had to call off their search Wednesday night due to a thunderstorm.

The man will be identified by the District Attorney’s office.
