A State Police trooper is receiving many thanks after helping a woman and her dog after a crash in Newbury.

Cheri Perault and her Great Dane, Cowboy, were on I-95 Tuesday when she was involved in a car crash. Cowboy could not fit in the cab, so the driver suggested the dog stay in Perault’s car as it was towed down I-95.

“I was at a loss,” said Perault, who lives in Medford. “Cowboy would have lost his mind if I kept him in the car while it was towed.”

The trooper allowed Cowboy in the back of his cruiser and dropped Perault off with Cowboy at a shopping center in Danvers, where they could wait for her husband.

“We are both safe at home now,” said Perault. “And I keep looking at Cowboy, thinking how horrible it would have been if he was stuck in my car while it was towed.”

Perault thanked the trooper “a million times over.”
