BOSTON (AP) — There’s about to be several new sheriffs in town.
Tuesday’s elections will determine successors to longtime sheriffs Frank Cousins, Michael Ashe and Robert Garvey.
All are retiring. Cousins, a Republican, is leaving after 20 years in office in Essex County. Ashe, a Democrat, held his post for four decades in Hampden County. Democrat Garvey has been sheriff of Hampshire County for 32 years.
Democrat Kevin Coppinger of Lynn, Republican Anne Manning-Martin of Peabody, and independents Mark Archer of Bedford and Kevin Leach of Manchester-by-the-Sea are vying to succeed Cousins.
Hampden County has a three-way contest between Democrat Nick Cocchi of Ludlow, John Comerford of Palmer and independent James Gill, Jr. of Wilbraham.
Democrat Patrick Cahillane of Northampton and Republican David Isakson of South Hadley are seeking the Hampshire post.
