WAKEFIELD, MASS. (WHDH) - A Wakefield doctor has had his medical license suspended after allegations he illegally prescribed medication to two people.

According to the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine, the board took disciplinary action during an emergency meeting on July 26 against the license of Robert B. Shepherd.

The board found he poses an immediate and serious threat to the public health, safety and welfare.

The board alleges he prescribed medication to two people that was not for legitimate purposes and was not in the usual course of his medical practice.

Shephard is board certified in family medicine and has been licensed to practice in Massachusetts since 1990.

He has the right to an appeal hearing within seven days.
