METHUEN, MASS. (WHDH) - Heath officials have announced West Nile Virus has been found in a mosquito in Methuen.

Officials said the city has treated all catch basins with larvicide and has provided information to residents on steps to take to reduce their exposure to mosquitoes.

The species of mosquito found with the virus prefers to bite birds instead of humans.

The Department of Public Health lists Methuen’s risk level for the virus as low.

Resident should take precautions until the first hard frost of the season.
