PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) — The first major snowfall of the season is hitting parts of southern New England.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for western Massachusetts, where some towns could see up to a foot of snow by Monday.

Forecasters said Pittsfield, Massachusetts, would see 2 to 4 inches by Sunday afternoon, another 4 to 6 inches Sunday night and another 1 to 2 inches on Monday.

The Weather Service says parts of northwestern Connecticut could get up to 7 inches of snow by Monday.

A wind advisory was also issued for western Massachusetts and western Connecticut. Forecasters say wind gusts could hit 50 mph through Monday afternoon, with the potential for downed trees and power outages.
