BOSTON (WHDH) - There is a push to raise the legal age limit for marijuana use coming from the Massachusetts Statehouse.

Senate President Stan Rosenberg is pushing to change the age for those who can smoke the recently-legalized drug from 21 to 25.

Some research has shown that the brain develops up until the age of 25, and marijuana use could have negative effects on that growth.

Rosenberg said he will meet with Governor Baker some time next week to discuss potentially raising the legal age.

The new recreational marijuana law goes into effect on Thursday, Dec. 15.
