DEVENS, Mass. (WHDH) — A Massachusetts State Trooper, who was under investigation for a claim of inappropriate misconduct, was found dead.
Sources told 7news Gregory Jaskinskas, an eight-year veteran, was put on desk duty while State Police investigated the claim. Just a day, later he was found dead in a hotel room in Devens. State Police said his death was suicide.
After the Jaskinskas learned he was under investigation, he told a couple of people he planned to hurt himself. They called police and when officers got to the scene, he was already gone.
Sources told 7News he had been accused of an inappropriate sexual conduct while he was on duty Sunday morning. The trooper was then stripped of his service firearm. According to one source, shortly after the accusation, Jaskinskas checked into a hotel sometime Monday and then phoned someone to let them know that's where they would find him. Sources also said back in January he was involved in a shooting in Avon when State Police opened fire on a former Avon Police officer accused of ramming into their cruiser head on.
According to his obituary, Jaskinskas spent 20 years in the National Guard and the Marines, serving three tours of duty before he joined the police force.
State Police have not released any details about the investigation surrounding him at the time of his death.
