CANAAN, Maine (AP) — A Maine family is looking for the driver who they say fatally struck their horse and took off.

Sierra Miner says her horse, Lucy, was tied up in front of her Canaan home Wednesday morning when a car swerved into the yard and hit Lucy. She says the horse was dragged for nearly a mile and left to die as the driver sped off.

Lucy was found lying in the middle of the road. Miner says witnesses didn’t get a good look at the vehicle that hit the horse.

Miner has started a fundraising drive to raise money for a reward leading to the person responsible for the horse’s death. She says she hopes to raise awareness about distracted driving.
