BOSTON (WHDH) - MBTA Police have arrested a man who witnesses say was striking his dog with a closed fist in a commuter rail station.
Police say they received a report of a man physically assaulting a dog at the North Station commuter rail station. Police spoke to witnesses who said the man was physically striking his dog with a closed fist, kneeling on the dog forcefully, and lifting the dog off the ground by its leash.
The man, identified as John Bowen, 46 of Boston, was still on the scene with his dog, an 11-month-old Husky named Sarah. One witness showed an officer a video of the assault.
Bowen was arrested on animal cruelty charges.
He was held on $5,000 cash bail on the animal abuse case, and had his bail revoked on an unrelated Malden case.
He will appear in court next on November 22.
Bowen has been ordered to stay away from North Station, witnesses in the case and the dog.
The dog was placed in custody by animal control officers and was brought to MSPCA-Angell for evaluation.
