A Massachusetts man has admitted to trying to entice a person he believed to be a 14-year-old Rhode Island boy to have sex with him.
Rhode Island U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha says 49-year-old Christopher Chassey, of Plymouth, pleaded guilty Friday to enticement to travel in interstate to engage in illicit sexual activity.
Authorities began investigating Chassey in April 2015 after a member of the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force answered an online advertisement seeking sex in exchange for cash posing as a 14-year-old Rhode Island boy.
Police say Chassey sent the fictitious boy hundreds of sexually explicit emails over the next several months and mailed him $100 last year so the boy could purchase a bus ticket to Plymouth.
Chassey is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 14.
