WINTHROP, MASS. (WHDH) - A man was arrested after allegedly attempting to kidnap and rape a woman walking in Winthrop on Monday.

According to police, the woman was walking on Revere Street when a grey Honda Civic pulled in front of her.

Police said the man started calling the woman beautiful and asked her to take a rid with him.

The woman told the man she was not interested and continued walking.

Police said the man then approached her on foot and told her to get in the car.

She refused and was attacked by the man in an isolated area. Her screaming caused him to run away.

Gerargdo Elenilson Portillo, 69 of Lynn, was arrested Thursday.

He will be charged with assault with intent to rape, attempted kidnapping, indecent assault and battery, strangulation and child endangerment.
