NANTUCKET, Mass. (AP) — Nantucket's harbor master and a firefighter have rescued a man who was found clinging to a buoy in Polpis Harbor.

The Cape Cod Times reports that police and fire officials believe the unidentified man was fishing in the harbor when he became stranded on Sunday night. Police say it's unclear how he became stranded in deep water.

The man called 911 on his cell phone and directed emergency responders to his location.

A firefighter who used a water-rescue board was unable to return him to shore due to the tide. The harbormaster picked up the firefighter and the man being rescued in a patrol boat.
