WEST BRIDGEWATER, MASS. (WHDH) - A man was killed in an early-morning house fire Monday in West Bridgewater.
Just after 5 a.m., firefighters responded to a call reporting a fire on Matfield Street.
When officers arrived, they found a two-family house fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters found the victim, Robert Murphy, 54, in the first-floor apartment where he lived.
He was declared dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation shows the fire is not considered suspicious and no foul play is suspected.
A family living on the second floor told investigators they tried to alert Murphy about the fire before they escaped.
The fire completely destroyed the home.
The cause of the fire was determined to have started in the kitchen of the first floor apartment.
