EVERETT, MASS. (WHDH) - Everett Police arrested Keith Lashon Herring, 27 of Brighton in connection with the murder of Stoneham-native Gary Duff-Turcotte, 21, on Sunday.

Herring allegedly shot and stabbed Duff-Turcotte shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday near 23 Ferry Street in Everett during what sources say was a drug deal gone wrong. Sources say Herring then stole a grey Audi and drove toward Boston.

Duff-Turcotte was taken to Cambridge Health Alliance Everett Hospital, where doctors pronounced him to be dead, according to Everett Police.

Everett Police Chief Steven Mazzie said Herring was arrested early Monday morning for murder, armed robbery, carjacking and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Chief Mazzie said the murder was an isolated incident, and there is no immediate threat to the neighborhood.

Massachusetts State Police worked with Everett Police to find the suspect, and it is unclear where officers found him.

“The guy who got shot, had to come out to the street…he kept saying he couldn’t breathe, he couldn’t breathe,” one witness who wished to remain anonymous said.

“It’s sad, it’s sad. It’s nonsense this violence is still going on,” the witness said.

Herring will be arraigned at Malden District Court Monday.
