Police are searching for a suspect wanted for sexually assaulting an elderly woman in her home in Hingham.

The woman called 911 at around 9 p.m. on July 28 to report that she had been sexually assaulted in her home in northern Hingham. The woman told police the suspect had broken into her home by forcing open a ground floor window.

Police said the man sexually assaulted the woman, who is over 70 years old, and then fled on foot. The victim told police she did not see any car. Police will not say if this was a prolonged attack or a brief encounter and they are unsure of a motive for the break-in. Police were unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect was described as a white man around 65 years old. She said he had thinning gray hair, brown eyes and a thin build. The victim said she does not know the suspect.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated and released.
