SOUTH BOSTON, Mass. (WHDH) — A man who said he witnessed his neighbor get attacked the same night, and in the same area, as 24-year-old Amy Lord, spoke to 7News.
Lord was kidnapped and stabbed to death last week in South Boston.
“I’ll never forget that scream. This was like fighting-for-your-life scream,” said Charles Reddy, a resident of South Boston. “When this girl screamed, I’ll never forget it. It was nothing I ever heard before in my life. Blood curdling.”
Reddy said he saw the man accused of the attack following his young neighbor.
“As soon as she turned to go into her door I noticed that he hurried up and then as soon as she opened the door, immediately that shriek scream,” said Reddy. “So I walked into the middle of the street, you could see the tussling and something going on inside. I yelled at him. I said, ‘What the heck are you doing to that girl’ and he came running out — because the door was open — he come running out of there and he’s like ‘A junkie white kid tried to get the girl’ and I was like ‘No it wasn’t. It was you. I seen you’.”
The stabbing happened just before midnight Tuesday on Gates Street in South Boston, just blocks away from where Lord was kidnapped. Later that night, police arrested Edwin Alemany for the Gates Street stabbing and another assault that happened within the same 24-hour period.
“I would know the guy…what he was saying back to me. I would know that voice,” said Reddy.
Police haven’t connected the Gates Street stabbing to Lord’s murder, but they did say Alemany is a person of interest in the case.
Reddy as the suspect went up the street people went to see if the victim was okay and that’s how the suspect got away.
The other women in the building said they believe the suspect was targeting them next.
