MANCHESTER, N.H. (WHDH) - Police have arrested a man who they say was attempting to steal an ambulance in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Police responded to Lake Avenue in Manchester Tuesday night after receiving a report that a man had attempted to steal an emergency vehicle.

Fire and rescue workers had responded to a home for a medical call. Crews on scene heard a beeping sound that the ambulance makes when it is in reverse.

Emergency crews saw a man inside the vehicle, and the ambulance began moving forward. Those on scene confronted the driver and detained him until police arrived.

Police arrested Matthew Duval, 40 of Manchester. Eyewitness statements confirmed he had moved the ambulance.

Officers say the man had left his personal vehicle running and unattended in a travel lane while he got into the ambulance.

Duval was charged with two counts of disorderly conduct and unauthorized use of a vehicle. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 18.
