MARSHFIELD, MASS. (WHDH) - Students in Marshfield had quite the surprise at school on Tuesday.

The Furnace Brook Middle School came in first place in the Jimmy Fund’s fundraising rally, raising more than $30,000 for the charity.

The Red Sox sent over a key player to thank them for their efforts.

Red Sox third baseman Travis Shaw greeted 1,100 students Tuesday morning, answering questions and visiting with students.

“It’s pretty impressive,” Shaw said. “It shows dedication, the hard work they put in. Raising $30,000 for anything, especially for middle school kids, is pretty impressive.”

The students are undefeated. They have raised the most money of any school for the past seven years, raising more than $100,000.
