MASHPEE, MASS. (WHDH) - A standoff in Mashpee ended Wednesday evening with a suspect taken into custody.

The standoff began Wednesday afternoon when police said a man barricaded himself inside Audio Video Solutions Inc. at the Mashpee Business Park. Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline said the man told police he was armed with high-powered rifles and fired one round from inside the business.

The standoff continued for hours as the suspect allegedly threatened to harm himself and any officers who approached him. As a precaution, neighboring businesses were evacuated and Route 28 was closed between the Deer Crossing Plaza and South Cape Village to the Falmouth town line.

The suspect finally came out at around 7:30 p.m. and was taken into custody. He was taken to a local hospital for a psychological evaluation. Police said he will be facing charges.
