BOSTON (AP) — Falmouth's Town Meeting has voted down a measure that would have authorized a ballot measure about borrowing $14 million to tear down two wind turbines.

The measure failed by a vote of 125-72 Tuesday night. Town Clerk Michael Palmer says it needed a two-thirds majority to pass. If it had passed, the borrowing question would have been put before voters in a May referendum.

The turbines have been controversial since the first one was installed in 2010.

Some neighbors have complained about the noise and attribute a range of ailments to them, from dizziness to headaches to memory loss. But other residents have reported no problems.

Some in town say it's far too soon to tear down a critical renewable energy project they estimate could produce $450,000 in revenues for the town annually.
