MEDFORD, Mass. (WHDH) — Mourners lined up outside a Medford church Monday for the funeral of Krystle Campbell, the 29-year-old woman killed in the Boston Marathon bombing.
The line outside St. Joseph Church on Monday stretched down the block.
One woman who lives nearby told 7News her daughter went to high school with Campbell.
“I’m a mother so I feel her pain. I hope God’s going to give her a lot of strength to her and the family,” said Giovanna Guarino, Medford resident.
Campbell was one of three people killed near the finish line a week ago. She was a restaurant manager who died near the marathon finish — just a few weeks shy of her 30th birthday. She had gone to watch her friend finish the race.
“The SWAT team was right in front of my house yesterday. And I know I want to show unity and support for what’s going on,” said Gregg Moree, who attended Campbell’s wake.
The funeral home's program shows photographs of a shining young woman with a beautiful smile who should have had a long life ahead of her.
That changed Monday — but not the love this family feels.
“I feel really sorry for the family. It’s a very hard loss for them,” said Susan Vigevani.
In addition to the mourners, union members and a local motorcycle club showed up to stop a church group from disrupting the funeral.
Teamsters Local 25 President Sean O'Brien says the union members planned to stand in front of protesters to block them from the Campbell family's view.
Wallie Hawkins says his motorcycle club will rev their bikes to drown out protesters.
Governor Deval Patrick and Cardinal Sean O’Malley attended the funeral as well.
