BOSTON (WHDH) - Three state troopers were honored Monday at the State House for their involvement in a gunfight that left an Auburn police officer dead.

One of the troopers was shot during the shootout back in May following the death of Auburn Police Officer Ron Tarentino Jr. The suspect was killed during the shootout.

“It was a hard day for everybody involved,” said Trooper AJ Kardoos. “It continues to be difficult, I’m sure, for the Tarentinos. I think about them everyday.”

The three troopers received the Massachusetts State Police Medal of Honor for their involvement. Tarentino’s parents also attended the ceremony and thanked the troopers for their bravery.
