EAST BOSTON (WHDH) — Neighbors in East Boston said they were left shaken up by the gunfight Wednesday night that injured two Boston police officers and left the suspect dead.

Neighbors said they wanted everything unfold late Wednesday on Gladstone Street as police cars and ambulances arrived, with one resident comparing the situation to a “war zone.”

Police said a gunfight erupted between the two officers and suspect Kirk Figueroa after they were called to his apartment. Figueroa’s roommate allegedly told police he and Figueroa were arguing about the heat and Figueroa threatened him with a knife.

When officers arrived, police said Figueroa opened fire with a tactical rifle. He was killed in the shootout with police.

“Unbeliveable, to tell you the truth, that something like that happened in the neighborhood,” said Guy Moore.

Neighbors said Figueroa’s car stood out in the neighborhood, as it looked like a police cruiser. One neighbor called it a “wannabe cop car” that had “constable” written all over it. This past July, Figueroa was appointed a constable in Boston.
