CAMBRIDGE, MASS. (WHDH) - State Police confirmed that a teenage boy drowned Friday night after jumping into the Charles River near Harvard University in Cambridge.

Witnesses said they saw the 18-year-old boy go into the water off the Weeks Footbridge and come up with his arms flailing. He then went under and did not resurface.

Divers from the Cambridge Fire Department located the boy 25 minutes later. He was taken to Beth Israel, where he was pronounced dead.

According the Middlesex District Attorney’s office, foul play is not suspected. It is believed to have been an accidental drowning.

The victim has not been identified, pending family notification.
