NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. (WHDH) - North Andover police are warning residents of an increase in phone scams from people reportedly from the IRS.

According to police, the call says a person owes back taxes and they caller will negotiate payment over the phone.

The caller usually has an accent of some type, police said.

Anyone who receives such a call is urged not to give out any personal information or arrange payment.

Residents are urged to contact police to report the call or to notify the local IRS office.

Police said the IRS will not contact you directly by phone if you owe back taxes.
