BOSTON (WHDH) - A vigil was held Tuesday in memory of a Northeastern University student from Wakefield who died of meningitis.

Ryan Shaw, a freshman pursuing a finance degree, died Sunday just hours after he was diagnosed. Dozens attended the vigil at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, where he went to high school. Shaw’s teachers said he was a dedicated student who touched many lives.

“Of course, when someone passed away, we always remember the good of them,” said Ed Hardiman, the headmaster from St. John’s Prep. “I don’t remember anything but good for Ryan.”

Hardiman said Shaw’s organs were donated to help eight other people. The Department of Public Health is monitoring the situation with Northeastern but said there are no other known meningitis cases.
