A man has been sentenced to life in prison in connection with a 2011 Ipswich murder.

Cheng Sun, 51 of Bronx New York, was convicted last week of first degree murder in the stabbing death of Shui Keun "Tony" Woo, 62, on Sept. 27, 2011.

Sun was sentenced to life without parole. In addition, a judge adopted the state’s recommendation of 40 to 60 years for stealing by confinement and 18 to 20 years for assault to rob a person over 60 years old to be served concurrently with the life sentence.

Sun’s co-defendant, Sifa Lee, 38 of Quincy, is scheduled for trial on March 8. There is a status hearing on that case on March 2.

The two men were originally scheduled to be tried together, but a shortage of Chinese language interpreters forces the cases to be severed.

A third co-defendant, Jun Di Lin, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Sept. 22, 2104. He will be sentenced upon conclusion of Lee’s trial.
