NEWTON, Mass. (WHDH) – Officials in Newton say a live six-inch artillery shell has been found. Newton Fire, Newton Police and State Police bomb squad are on the scene.
Crews working in the old salvage yard were cleaning up the property Wednesday when they discovered the old artillery shell.
Authorities say a U.S. Navy team out of Newport, Rhode Island arrived to help with the assessment and disposal of the shell.
The U.S. Navy took the shell and will dispose of it at a military facility, according to Newton Fire.
