BOSTON (WHDH) - A body found last week in the Belle Isle Marsh in East Boston has been identified as that of a missing teenager.

Officials say the body found is that of a 16-year-old boy from East Boston. The Suffolk County District Attorney said family members identified the teen who had been reported missing on Nov. 13.

Authorities have declined to release the name of the deceased.

The Chief Medical Examiner has not yet ruled on the cause of death.

State Police said the body was found in a dry part of Belle Isle Marsh just before 5 p.m. Friday. The area is across Bennington Street from Suffolk Downs. State Police said the body appears to have been there for some time.

Sources tell 7News the body appears to have a gunshot wound and may have been the victim of a homicide.

Police say the death does not appear to be random. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Suffolk County State Police unit at 617-727-8817.
