BOSTON (WHDH) - A new partnership with the Boston Garden Development Corporation (BGDC) will pave the way for a custom-designed outdoor skating path and a European-style shopping market on City Hall Plaza this holiday season.

The winter attractions include a unique twist on the skating rink, which will be nearly 11,000 square feet and will be open to skaters of all ages, according to Boston City Hall. The city says resident and youth skating programs will be announced later.

The rink will open after Thanksgiving and will stay open through February 2017.

The enhancements will also include a free outdoor holiday shopping market, which will also open after Thanksgiving and stay open through New Year’s Day.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh says the new plans are the next step forward in the mayor’s commitment to improving City Hall Plaza as a “vibrant public space.”
