LUNENBURG, Mass. (WHDH) — Police have focused their investigation into the racist graffiti in Lunenburg on the mother of the boy who was targeted.

Other parents in the community say they are shocked at the turn in the case, especially since the mother was the person who reported the crime.

“It’s impossible to think how someone could think this would work out for them,” Stuart Leinson said.

Some people said they don’t understand why anyone would do something like this, especially the boy’s mother.

“What's the motivation, was it just to throw the blue nights football team under the bus,” Leinson asked.

The Leinsons said they want justice for the person who stood by while high school students were accused of the hate crime.

“I’m thankful that police; local, state and FBI, decided to do some digging. Clear the boys, clear the town and put the perpetrator away," Leinson said.

Police have not said how they will proceed with the case, or if there will be an arrest.
