NEEDHAM, MASS. (WHDH) - During the weekend of November 4th through 6th, Highland Avenue over I-95 will be detoured for the demolition of the Highland Avenue Bridge.
Demolition operations will start on the east side of the bridge (over I-95 Northbound), from 8 p.m. Friday to 3 p.m. Saturday, followed by the west side of the bridge (over I-95 Southbound), from 6 p.m. Saturday to 3 p.m. Sunday
It is anticipated that there will be some time during the transition where both North and Southbound mainlines are detoured.
Signage and police details will be present to guide traffic to the detoured routes.
Detour Routes Associated with the North Bound Rt. 128 (I-95NB) Bridge Demolition:
- Highland Avenue Local Traffic
- Northbound I-95 (Route 128) to Maintain Mainline Traffic
- Highland Avenue East to I-95 Northbound
- Needham Street (Becomes Highland Avenue) West to I-95
- I-95 Northbound to Highland Avenue East or West
- I-95 Southbound to Highland Avenue East
Detour Routes Associated with the South Bound Rt. 128 (I-95SB) Bridge Demolition:
- Highland Avenue Local Traffic
- Southbound I-95 (Route 128) to Maintain Mainline Traffic
- Needham Street (Becomes Highland Avenue) East of I-95 to I-95
- Highland Avenue West to I-95
- I-95 Northbound exit to Highland Avenue West
In case of inclement weather, operations will shift to the following weekend.
Drivers should exercise caution and allow additional time for their trip during demolition operations.
While the temporary connections via the ramps will be safe, they will not support normal speeds and drivers should expect to slow down while on them.
