LUNENBURG, Mass. (WHDH) — New details on the investigation into racist graffiti spray-painted on a football players home were released Wednesday following a search warrant.
Police left the house Tuesday evening with an unidentified brown bag, but say they found what they were searching for and who to focus on.
The search warrant suggests that the entire incident could simply be a hoax, as authorities turn their focus on Andrea Brazier, Isaac Phillips’ mother.
The search warrant says that authorities took away ammunition from the house and two cans of spray paint. The warrant also says they were looking for examples of Brazier's handwriting.
The police investigation originally focused on high school football players as suspects. However, the students were all cleared and police turned their attention to the Phillips' house.
The warrant also says that police found a couple of aerosol sprays can in the fire pit. Last week Isaac’s mother she said she wanted to end the investigation. According to the search warrant, when an FBI agent suggested Brazier wanted to end the investigation because she was the culprit, she answered “OK.”
Isaac was the lone black player on the football team and after the family called police to report the graffiti, the school district canceled the football season. The town held a candlelight vigil vowing racism has no place in Lunenburg. Isaac Phillips transferred to a different school and the team was blamed.
Lunenburg police say they continue to work with the FBI, and that a group of parents came to the police station on Tuesday to sit down with the police chief and talk about ways to heal the community and move forward.
They said an arrest is expected soon.
